LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave detectors suspended due to coronavirus

The LIGO and Virgo gravity-wave observators have been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is reported on the LIGO project website. The joint observations of the American LIGO Observatory and the Franco-Italian Virgo detector are used for experimental detection of gravitational waves of cosmic origin. On April 1, 2019, scientists of these projects began the third session of joint observations. It was planned to last until April 30, 2020, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, it was decided to stop the observations early.
