Take from the rich: dividends can impose a progressive tax

A progressive scale of dividend tax for large companies may appear in Russia. This proposal was made to the government by a member of the Federation Council Andrei Kutepov. Several thresholds for raising the tax rate will fill the pandemic-affected budget, the senator believes. The initiative, if adopted, will hit first of all the state itself as the largest recipient of dividends and will worsen the already poor investment environment, experts are sure.

LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave detectors suspended due to coronavirus

The LIGO and Virgo gravity-wave observators have been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is reported on the LIGO project website. The joint observations of the American LIGO Observatory and the Franco-Italian Virgo detector are used for experimental detection of gravitational waves of cosmic origin. On April 1, 2019, scientists of these projects began the third session of joint observations. It was planned to last until April 30, 2020, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, it was decided to stop the observations early. LIGO and Virgo will suspend observations on March 27, 2020 at 17:00 UTC [20:00 GMT]. It is currently unknown whether the observations will resume in the near future, as the current global COVID-19 pandemic requires us to make health and safety our top priority, according to the LIGO project website.
